New Craft Registration System for Waterways Ireland

Waterways Ireland has today launched a Craft Registration Management Systems (CRMS) developed by Capita IB Solutions, a market leader in providing world-class financial management, procurement and e-Business solutions to service-centric organisations. Waterways Ireland is the North/South Implementation Body responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of the inland navigable waterway systems throughout the island, principally for recreational purposes. The waterways under the remit of Waterways Ireland are the Lower Bann Navigation, the Erne System, the Shannon-Erne Waterway, the Shannon Navigation, the Barrow Navigation, the Grand Canal and the Royal Canal. The Waterways Ireland Inspectorate is responsible for ensuring that the Bye-Laws on the waterways are adhered to and this includes the registration of craft. The CRMS developed by Capita IB Solutions will allow Waterways Ireland Inspectorate staff to register new entries while on patrol, either on land or water, and will also facilitate improved management of the existing register. Historically, the registration process was a manual paper based procedure, carried out by staff in the Enniskillen office and Waterways Ireland wanted to improve, standardise and update the registration processes across the group using modern and efficient technology. The CRMS is a robust and flexible system using effective mobile technology to deliver the essential current functionality required by Waterways Ireland Inspectorate staff with the capability of potential component expansion to cater for future requirements said Brian Cleland, Head of IT at Waterways Ireland. Eamonn Morris, managing director of Capita IB Solutions, said: Capita IB Solutions has been providing off-the-shelf and custom software solutions for over 30 years. These solutions have enabled our customers to gain significant competitive advantage, streamline business process flows, increase efficiency and productivity and produces significant cost savings. We have developed a reputation for delivering our projects in partnership with our customers on-time, within budget and to specification. This win highlights the importance of the services offered and underpins our reputation in the marketplace as a provider of customised solutions.

The project, which was awarded to Capita IB Solutions in February last year and is part of an overall upgrade strategy of the registration system, will also incorporate online registration by owners over the Internet.
