NEP and iSOFT Business Solutions achieve ‘unqualified opinion’ SAS 70 Report II

The NEP Shared Systems Group (NEP), a Consortium of more than 60 NHS Organisations and Integrated Business Software and Solutions have successfully achieved an "unqualified opinion" Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70 Type II Report for their shared system and managed services operations in the UK.

The SAS 70 examination, conducted by KPMG, included NEP and Integrated Business Software and Solutions' internal control processes, procedures and site operations. An "unqualified" auditor's opinion for a SAS 70 Type II report indicates that all control objectives specified by the service organisation were achieved without a significant exception or deficiency.

The examination included the company's controls related to management structure, service level management, information security management, physical security, access to programs & data, operational change management and computer operations.

SAS 70 is designated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as an acceptable method for a user organisation's management to obtain assurance about service organisation's internal controls without conducting separate assessments.

A service auditor's examination performed in accordance with SAS No. 70 (SAS 70 Audit) is widely recognised, because it represents that a service organisation has been through an in-depth audit of their control objectives and control activities, which often include controls over information technology and related processes. A Type II report not only includes the service organisation's description of controls, but also includes detailed testing of the design and operating effectiveness of the service organisation's controls.

Eamonn Morris, Managing Director at IBSS, comments "This is a significant achievement for NEP and IBSS, gained at our first attempt. We are one of only a few organisations in achieving this report in the UK. It enhances our reputation and is testament to the internal processes and information security controls we have in place. This 'unqualified opinion' should also be of significant encouragement to our existing and prospective customers."

Christine Hall, Associate Programme Director, NEP Shared System Group stated "NEP and IBSS have had an extremely successful partnership for more than seven years, working collaboratively to provide our customers with comprehensive innovative financial and procurement solutions. This achievement confirms our commitment to all our members and demonstrates a unique collaborative approach, not only between NEP and IBSS, but also sets a benchmark for future working models with our clients' External Auditors. Attaining the SAS 70 accreditation substantially complements the NEP Offering within the NHS."
