An On-Line Application Facility for Student Grants Developed by Integrated Business Software and Solutions Wins
An online Student Grant Application Facility, developed by Capita IB Solutions for the Department of Education and Skills in Ireland, has been awarded a Public Service Excellence Award by the Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) at an awards ceremony.
The Public Service Excellence Awards are held every two years to recognise innovation and best practice in public service administration and service delivery, and to share ideas across public service organisations and sectors. Approximately 190 nominations were received and assessed by an Awards Selection Committee.
On 21st June 2012, the Taoiseach presented Public Service Excellence Awards to twenty projects from across the public service sector at a special awards ceremony in Dublin Castle. The awards ceremony was preceded by a showcase conference, where the successful projects were presented and exhibited.
As part of an overall government strategy to increase efficiency and reduce costs, the Department of Education in Ireland identified the student grant application process as an area that could be significantly improved through greater automation. The organisation turned to the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee (CDVEC) to manage delivery of a solution that would save significant time and cost, and that would enable the awarding authorities who pay grants to students to provide a better service. This solution has been developed and delivered by Capita IB Solutions in Ireland.
The solution provides higher and further education students with an online grant application facility, and initially went live for the 2010/2011 academic year. In 2012 a new centralised facility called Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) was established, which went live earlier this month, and all new grant applications are now only made online.
The enhanced online facility was developed by Capita IB Solutions and replaces a manual process operated by 66 different Local Authorities and Education Committees. The facility substantially improves the grant application experience for over 60,000 applicants each year, and will yield substantive savings by significantly reducing the costs of processing paper-based applications.
